Samsung Galaxy Ring could one up Galaxy Watch in health tracking accuracy, and give Oura Ring a run for their money

According to reports coming out of South Korea, Samsung has already developed activity and health-tracking technologies for the Galaxy Ring. Reportedly, it features a PPG (Photoplethysmography) sensor and ECG (Electrocardiogram) to track heart activity and health. It is also being reported that the Galaxy Ring’s accuracy is even more accurate and detailed than existing Galaxy Watches, as the sensors in the ring cover the finger from all sides.

Samsung filed a trademark for the Galaxy Ring name with the KIPRIS (Korea Intellectual Property Information Search) in February 2023, which means that the company could launch the smart wearable device in the future. However, there is no specific timeline for the launch yet.

The Oura Ring has proved itself to be very accurate, but it comes at a premium price, in its titanium offering. So, it will be very interesting to see where Samsung will price their device. Why this is important, is because all these devices (like most ear buds) have non-replaceable batteries. So, you have to weigh up what you pay vs the 2- or 3-year lifespan. My Oura Ring lasted just over 2 years only, and although it was still replaced under warranty, I’d probably think a bit more carefully next time what I spend on a “disposable” device.

But I’ll certainly be interested in seeing what happens with this Galaxy Ring.
