HMD Global has launched its new Nokia 1 Plus budget smartphone in South Africa. HMD Global said that the Nokia 1 Plus would initially only be available from Vodacom outlets, with the device becoming available through selected MTN outlets later in May.
The device is one of the first smartphones running Android 9 Go to be released, and it aims to deliver mid-range smartphone features at an attractive price point.
It's not high-end by any means but it is running the latest software and will bring access to many popular smartphone apps to those who can least afford it. For many, this will be their main Internet device for banking, browsing, social media, instant messaging, etc. It will go a long way to helping bridge the digital divide.
