Unless you flash your own router software the chances are the Americans and Chinese governments could be spying on you - I'm wondering why Cisco routers are not banned?

Whilst the NSA has been quick to warn many that Huawei routers may have had a spy chip inserted, zero evidence has come to light. What we have seen over the last few years though on the NSA side is firstly the Snowden leak about the NSA doing exactly the same with Cisco routers, the NSA had been caught spying on the German Chancellor's phone (an ally), and Cisco has had seen security vulnerabilities discovered during 2018 alone.

So I'm just wondering why there is no call to ban the purchase of Cisco routers? It's a weird world full of agendas and power control struggles. Could it be that the NSA is not scared of any Huawei spy chips but in fact that they may lose control of the spy chips they have in the Cisco routers if the Cisco routers get replaced?

What is certain is no router manufacturer (or software manufacturer) can say their products are fully secure or "bug" free. What is also certain is so many governments and corporations no longer "roll their own" and tend to just buy products and are very dependent on external parties.

So instead of say using free LibreOffice office software where you can have the code audited before you compile it, a company will pay a fortune to buy an expensive proprietary alternative where they use less than 10% of the functionality, pay lots of extras for all the levels of support, and can't fix it themselves. A lot of what we are buying is just marketing hype as what we really need is what we already have. What happened to our own "can do" staff who built things and made them happen within their own corporations?

Latest Snowden leak reveals the NSA intercepted and bugged Cisco routers
As promised, the release of Glenn Greenwald's new book, No Place to Hide, has brought plenty more Snowden leaks, and one document is particularly mind-blowing...
