Great News: Sugar is OK (Don’t Think So!) Apparently, it’s now OK to eat sugar. There’s no convincing link between sugar and obesity or other diseases. This according to a new review of the science. Great news! …Except if you look at the fact that this article, and it’s lead author Dr. Rippe, is funded by companies like Pepsi, Coca Cola, the Corn Refiners Association (manufacturing High Fructose Corn Syrup), ConAgra Foods, Kraft Foods etc. There might be a little tiny risk of bias involved. Conflict of interest declaration from the report at http://ift.tt/2auXSj9: "J. M. Rippe’s research laboratory has received unrestricted grants and Dr. Rippe has received consulting fees from ConAgra Foods, Kraft Foods, the Florida Department of Citrus, PepsiCo International, Coca Cola, the Corn Refiners Association, Weight Watchers International and various publishers." Right at the end of the report there is a note: "It is important to point out that, however, abundant evidence exists suggesting that consumption of all energy dense nutrients, including added sugar, represents an important step along with decreased physical activity in increasing the risk of interrelated metabolic diseases such as obesity, CHD, T2D, and NAFLD." Which I understand to be what Coca Cola were marketing in that it is not sugar the sugar consumption causing these diseases, but the lack of physical exercise.... See http://ift.tt/2aOi7Hc
