2017 Toyota Prius Prime First Drive Review This is a plug-in hybrid (which is like a hybrid of a full EV with a hybrid....). The range of the previous Prius plug-in was fairly unusable at around 11 miles, but the new Prime has a more useful range of around 22 miles (35 km) which would get me to work and back purely on the battery. Charge time for me (on 240 volts) would be just over 2 hours... again pretty useful. And being a hybrid, if you need to cover longer distances or travel across the country, this is no issue at all. The challenge for many environmentally conscious buyers may be, why not pay around the same amount (or a bit less) and get a full EV that has a 200 mile (320 km) range?
