Bang said it took Samsung two years to bring the Buds Live to market, a time frame that involved a lot of experimentation and trial and error. There were three areas of focus: originality in design, ergonomic fit, and the desire for form to follow function — another way of saying that these earbuds had to sound good no matter what they ended up looking like. So how did the company land on the bean shape? Samsung closely studied the concha of the ear and found that a bean-like form factor could cradle snugly in the ear with a pleasantly surprising, comfortable fit. It conducted design tests with over 2,000 people to finalize the exact measurements and weight. Quite an interesting read and also really good to see an iFixit rating of 8 out of 10 for this device. Lutris gaming client easily got Assetto Corsa to run on my Manjaro Linux - it's a notoriously difficult Windows game to get running on Linux

I had actually given up on Assetto Corsa after struggling with Proton tweaks etc in Steam and had got rFactor 2 running instead, but rF2 was still having issues with many older tracks not loading. Lutris' big claim to fame (for me anyway) is that there are some tried and tested scripts available on their site (one button click to install) which seems to essentially sandbox a host of tweaks in one go that will work for each game. So yes it will take a bit more space as it installs WINE, MS .Net, etc as needed for each game, but it is a balance that works. Assetta Corsa is over 10 GB in its download and is a highly detailed racing sim. Absolutely everything works except the force feedback for my cheap Speedlink racing wheel. But the wheel drives fine and I aim to replace it with a Logitech G29 which has a driver to support FFB. I have not yet tested out the online racing part but so far all looks good. Despite great progress over the past century, more than a billion people still don’t have access to clean drinking water today. Much of the water on Earth’s surface is polluted, but it’s not always easy to tell a dirty stream from a clean one. Professional kit for water analysis can be expensive, which is why Kutluhan Aktar decided to design a portable, internet-connected water pollution monitor. There is no single parameter that determines the quality of a water sample, so the pollution monitor has no less than five different sensors. These can determine the oxidation-reduction potential (a chemical indicator), the pH (acidity), total dissolved solids (mainly salts), turbidity (suspended particles) and temperature. To combine all these numbers into a simple “yes/maybe/no” indicator, Kutluhan trained a neural network with data gathered from a large number of places around his hometown.
