Find My Device: Finally you will be able to find your Android phone without Internet, like Apple and Samsung have had

Google’s Find My Device program will soon receive an update. Soon, even if your smartphone has no Internet connection, the Mountain View company will be able to determine where it is. Making this feature as efficient as it is on iPhones or Samsung smartphones.

Concretely speaking, this implies that even when your phone has no internet connection, Bluetooth-enabled devices nearby will always be able to help you find it. Important detail, all data will be encrypted, and the phones used in this network will not be able to know the location of the Android smartphone.

Yes, Apple and Samsung have had this feature for a while, which could work without having any 3rd party app installed either, and this is what made their Find My Device functionality very attractive for users. The moment something has to exclusively rely on a Wi-Fi or LTE Internet connection, or passers-by having installed a bunch of 3rd party apps, you know there is a very slender chance of ever tracking your device. If this (and no reason why not), lets 3rd party tracker devices also utilise this, then these too will be able to rival Apple’s AirTags. The weakness in the Android “lost device” network has been the lack of universal and transparent location ability.

The timing for me is great as I’m planning from after Feb 2023 to fully ditch my iPhone, Apple Watch and AirTags.
