Municipal Money is a South African open source portal which helps compare key performance indicators of local municipalities

"As citizens, we should know how this money has been spent and also have a say in how money is spent in the future to better our lives."

Municipal Money is an initiative of the National Treasury, which has collected extensive municipal financial data over several years and would like to share this information with the public. The aim is to make this data widely available in order to increase transparency, strengthen civic oversight and promote accountability.

It is open source software and the code is available on Github. It is a prime example of firstly open data, and secondly of source code created with publicly funded money, being reshared for others to use.

If you're an SMME doing business with local government, this is a site you want to check out first.
