Hyundai to launch dedicated EV platform in major electric car push - Hyundai and Kia are the hopes for non-luxury car owners to afford electric vehicles

Hyundai expects its dedicated Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) will allow it to use its own battery module technology across various EV models and cut the number of components by 60%.

It has promised 23 new EVs including 11 all-electric models by 2025 and plans to introduce a family of EVs under the Ioniq brand from early next year to spearhead its near-term transition toward EV production.

Tesla, Jaguar, etc are not affordable by average motorists and even the Nissan Leaf is pretty pricey so our hope really lies with Hyundai, Kia, VW, Renault and similar manufacturers to bring EV prices within reach of average motorists from 2025 onwards when it is expected that EV sales will start to catch up with ICE vehicles and overtake them.
