A video guide to installing Linux Mint from scratch for beginners

Linux Mint is one of the most beginner-friendly Linux distros. It's based on Ubuntu but with tons of refinement built-in). Before taking the plunge to install anything you can run it off a LiveCD to test out if you like it, and to be sure it does in fact work with your hardware (I'd be very surprised if it did not).

After that you have the choice to install it side-by-side with Windows (Dual-boot mode) or to wipe your drive and do a clean Linux Mint only install. The presenter has a link in their video to show how dual-boot mode works.

I've never lost any data with these installs but doing a proper backup is always advisable. Linux has the advantage of being great at speeding up older hardware, where you cannot get Windows drivers for some hardware, creating a full enabled media machine, or like I use it, as a daily driver on your desktop.
