martglasses are considered the next big breakthrough for wearables that will filter into our daily lives. Putting useful connected features in front of our eyes is a challenge that both startups and major tech players have stepped up try and make a reality.
Augmented Reality (AR) is different from Virtual Reality (VR) in that the AR superimposes (augments) what you are seeing in the real world, versus VR where you don't see the outside world and are completely enveloped in what you are seeing. So with AR glasses you can walk around and be seeing a heads-up display superimposed over what is happening in the real world around you. What is great is in many cases you don't need a large monitor any more, and some a security/privacy perspective (say on a plane) people are not reading what you are seeing.
The Blade uses waveguide technology to project a full color HD display over the right lens. They are the first pair of really useful commercial AR glasses that actually look like a pair of glasses They're not Oakleys or Ray-Bans, but they don't scream "Look at me, I'm technology" like some other smartglasses.
So whilst the Blade is truly getting there, the apps availability is not yet what we want to see, and Google, Facebook and Apple are busy with their iterations too, so it's early days still. But as an info junky and multi-monitor user I certainly see myself going this way in the future.
