Good explanation of why Valve has developed Proton for Steam Games instead of using WINE, and why game devs should target using Vulkan for all platforms

X-Plane flight simulator has just switched to using Vulkan natively which means they can target Windows, Mac and Linux with native applications that all perform exceedingly well. Proton is doing a pretty good job of running some complex Windows only games on Linux that WINE could not yet handle. But good to see they are all contributing upstream to making cross-platform gaming better.
