Leaked video reveals Microsoft sees Zoom video conferencing as an ‘emerging threat’ - We do need strong competition

A leaked video has provided a rare insight into Microsoft’s thoughts on Zoom Video Communications. Zoom has quickly turned into a popular app for video conferencing, and some analysts estimate it may have nearly 13 million monthly active users. Many Zoom users combine the video calling service with Google’s G Suite, Slack, and other productivity apps that rival Microsoft’s Office dominance.

Yes Skype is not what is used to be since Microsoft took it over. I recall the days when Skype was peer-to-peer. There are also conferencing services like Jitsi that require zero registration to use which eliminates lots of hassles just when you want a conference to start.

At the end of the day we want some balance and competition in the market and certainly do not want a single product (like Office 365) dominating the market where even free alternatives cannot get any foothold.
