It's big news because Gillette has been moving briskly away from DE razors for over 30 years now, steadily adding more and more blades to their cartridge razors. Problem is the cartridge razors cut in a way that gives many people ingrown hairs and skin irritation. This is why DE having has been growing steadily without any Gillette involvement apart from the fact they still make Gillette DE blades for some markets.

So this launch says Gillette has noticed the big growth in safety razor shaving. Good news is this is an excellent price and resembles the Edwin Jagger DE89 in many ways.
