My own Airpods are just turning two years old next month and today after 47 minutes of pl;ayinga podcast they had 45% battery left... they work great but batteries don't last forever. So yes you can apparently get a "battery service" but when you can buy a cheaper set of earbuds for the cost one of Airpods' batteries you just have to toss up on the choice.
Out of warranty Airpods will cost about $69 per bud to replace the battery... cheaper earbuds could sell for $50 per pair new.
So just like with smartphones battery life becomes the Achilles heel of earbuds too...
