Yes, it's 2019 but as far as I'm aware there is no major new entrant to the market that has swept these products away.
Although plain SSH is very useful for quickly doing remote admin tasks you may want to remotely control a graphical user interface and even run a game or watch a video from the remote machine. VNC is the most commonly used protocol for this purpose. I Have a VNC viewer on my main Linux computer and with two clicks I can quickly view and work on my main media machine in the lounge, my Raspberry Pi weather station machine or even my Macbook.
