America’s message to the world: don’t trust China on 5G; China's message to the world: don't trust the USA on Cisco or Microsoft?
Standing outside the box (neither inside China or USA) I can see lots of agendas at play. A magician always deflects attention away from where something is happening.
I don't know for sure what Huawei has or has not done. What I know is I've yet to see or hear anything of evidential value. I'm probably leaning 70% against there being anything really concrete to this story.
What I do know (a consistent allegation from many nations) is that all nations spy on each other and the USA themselves have certainly been caught out spying on Germany and exploiting zero-day vulnerabilities in MS Windows XP, and there was strong suspicion about the USA and Israel being involved in that disablement of Iran's nuclear power facility.
So let's at least all be honest and admit we do what other countries are being accused of, and please keep our equipment in place because we are friendlier spies. What you/we have not found does not mean there is nothing there, but we know we cannot truly believe what any politician claims (whether from North, South, East or West... Central is Best).
See the main article at https://techcentral.co.za/americas-message-to-the-world-dont-trust-china-on-5g/87010/ but also the one I did not originally share at https://www.theregister.co.uk/2019/01/22/countries_spy_regardless_global_cybersecurity_regulation/ which is about a French diplomat candidly telling the world that all states spy on each other and we cannot enforce any ban on it... Best not to cast stones from one's own glass house.
