Google Maps is testing Waze-like crash and speed trap reporting

Being able to report crashes, as well as speed traps, is something that has become quite popular among the Waze community. It hasn’t come without its drama though as police officers are not a fan of the speed trap feature. It had gotten to the point where cops were reporting fake speed trap spots using the application in an attempt to undermine the system. Still, the feature and its community have been able to weather through the issues and the platform continues to grow.

It’s been interesting to see Google keep various features separate between the two applications but now it looks like the company is testing two of Waze’s popular features on its original Google Maps service. Incident reporting started showing up in Maps earlier this year.

Think I'll still stick to Waze for now as its reporting features are way richer. Waze has recently also started to show the time saved by shortcuts but it does lack a bit in terms of showing alternative full routes like Google Maps does. Goes to show there is no perfect service. I just hope Google does not collapse tye one into the other and lose features (yes like they did with Picasa Webalbums and Google Photos - sorry to say but Picasa Webalbums was better).

Google Maps and Waze have offered navigation services in their own unique way, but now Maps is testing a feature that has been used by Waze for years.
