YouTubers Will Enter Politics, And The Ones Who Do Are Probably Going To Win, and they have now actually Won seats in Brazil's Federal and State Elections
"A group of twentysomethings leveraged their huge YouTube audiences and actually won seats in Brazil's federal and state elections. What happens next is anyone's guess."
Well here is an unexpected twist to using tech... I suppose actually it makes sense as you've built up this massive following vs your competing politicians who have lobbied and spent money influencing a few influencers with paid TV adverts (anyone still watch TV?)...
This could really worry a lot of politicians as these guys come out of an unknown arena (politicians pay to send tweets and build their following online remotely that way) and these YouTubers get the attention of the youth as well as often those not bothering to follow the normal politics. This could be a breath of fresh air as there is a lot of discontent in many countries about politicians not really listening to especially the youth. It may make voting more popular amongst the youth.
What does this all mean for "legacy" career politicians? Well, the game changes with a completely different influence being applied as these YouTubers reach audiences that legacy politicians don't reach using a channel that these politicians won't be able to break into easily. It's certainly a disruptive influence and it is going to likely give other YouTubers aspirations they never thought of... why settle for advertising income if you can influence climate change and run a country instead? No, qualifications are not a hindrance as there have been many presidents around the world without even a matric (high school diploma). It's a numbers game at tyhe end of the day.
