Watch: Netflix mocks old-school DStv in South Africa in latest online ad

For those who do not know DStv it is a subscriber service in South Africa that broadcasts via satellite to houses with a dish, decoder, and smartcard. They decide what repeats of movies you can watch over a range of channels. If you miss the movie you have to wait for the next repeat but forget about deciding if you want to start at season 1 episode 1 of some favourite series. They have a total monopoly on sports broadcasting in the country and cost about 4x as much as Netflix. They have also bought up the Hollywood rights to many movies hence why Netflix and other streaming services have a slightly more restricted range.

In other words, it's a bit of an old-school model of entertainment. There is just zero chance of my family ever going back to the "broadcast model" of watching entertainment, but many sports fanatics have no choice and are locked in.
