Instagram will tell you when you're 'caught up' so you know when to stop scrolling
Once upon a time, this is how all social networks worked... you scrolled back chronologically until you found the last posts that you had previously read.. equals all read and caught up!
Not so anymore with many social networks (like G+ and Facebook) who mix up what they think is important (via some alogorithm) along with articles you read yesterday. At least give users an option to choose between chronological vs "tweaked". Not knowing when to stop means I just bother to go back three or five screens and no further as I'll never know when I've reached my previously read articles.
So really good going Instagram on giving the choice!!
