‘Listen Later’ Is Like Instapaper for Podcast Episodes - Add it as a custom playlist to most Podcast Players

Most podcast apps are built around finding and subscribing to shows, not episodes (apart from example Player FM which already does this). But Listen Notes, Lifehacker’s favorite podcast search engine, now lets you build a custom playlist of various podcast episodes.

With Listen Later, you can build a list of episodes, which you can subscribe to in any podcast player, like Apple Podcasts or Stitcher. Then search for episodes on Listen Notes, add them to your Listen Later list, and they’ll automatically show up in your player.

I tried this with Pocket Casts. After creating my custom episodes list on Listen Later, I added the RSS feed once to Pocket Casts and the playlist now appears (and will keep updating) within Pocket Casts as I add new episodes from Listen Later. So this does fill a big void where your podcast player does not allow you to search queue just individual episodes.

Listen Later also has a clip feature where you can select a specific start and end point in an episode and share just that clip, but it does not appear in the Listen Later feed. Also, I noted if you are on the web player and you browse to another page the podcast stops playing, and it also does not remember where it stopped. So Listen Now, on the web page, is not really a feature rich player but this could easily be fixed.

Another nice idea is for one person to curate and queue up podcasts for others to listen to eg. an older family member, or even the public at large because once that RSS feed is added to a podcast player, that list will keep updating automatically.
