How to manage your passwords with Bitwarden, a LastPass alternative
Many people turn to popular services like LastPass and 1Password to help them wrangle their passwords. While solid, those services are also proprietary and closed source. So where can an open source enthusiast turn to find an alternative?
Enter Bitwarden, an application that's aiming to become the go-to open source password manager on the web.
Nice that it offers a fully self-hosted option and it's premium service is less than half the cost of LastPass (not with all of LastPass's bells and whistles though). It ticks all the boxes for cross-device support and secure synching. I see it also makes allowance for custom password fields (like my bank which adds a third PIN number field) and although I did not get it to work properly yet, I may just have to tweak it.
Yes there is also open source KeePass but to be honest, KeePass is not that easy for non-technical users with a few different devices.
