Feed the dog and close the door with an open source home automation system
It may be a bit more effort to set up your own home automation system but the advantages are:
1. You can talk to all compatible devices from one automation system.
2. You can set any combination of rules and conditions that you need.
3. It will still work if the Internet goes off (many cloud based services go dumb if they lose their connection).
