Are the BSDs dying? Some security researchers think so
This is going to be a contentious one... Many have been predicting the demise of BSD for years but it has not happened at all. It has its own loyal and devoted following, maybe even more devoted than Linux. There is nothing technically wrong with BSD at all (it is closer to Unix itself than Linux itself is). The technical difference is Linux is only a kernel (and the rest is packaged into different distos hence so many choices) whilst BSD is a full operating system (from which MacOS was derived). But what is a fact is Linux has more desktop users and especially new users. Both have existed side by side for a long time and there is no reason why they won't do so in the future. But writing hardware device driver support is ever more challenging and whilst BSD and Linux developers cooperate wherever they can, one wonders in the future whether the OSs s with always continue to exist separately..... I suppose though the same can be said of Linux Distros - why are there so many? Well some distros do lie down to die whilst others evolve and even new ones are created.
What BSD and Linux both have in common is the freedom of choice and options for all users. It's about celebrating that freedom and being in control of what you use.
