ActivityPub is a decentralized social networking protocol being developed as part of the W3C Social Web Working Group
Don't you miss the days when the web really was the world's greatest decentralized network? Before everything got locked down into a handful of walled gardens? When a person on one social network could follow and respond to a person on a different social network (Much like e-mail today allows you to send and receive mail for other mail domains).
Enter ActivityPub! ActivityPub is a decentralized social networking protocol based on the ActivityStreams 2.0 data format and is being developed as part of the W3C Social Web Working Group. It provides a client to server API for creating, updating and deleting content, as well as a federated server to server API for delivering notifications and subscribing to content.
Mastodon has already adopted this new standard (and I see it interconnects with gnusocial). So my profile on gnusocial is able to follow and respond to posts I make on Mastodon. The announcement about Mastodon's compliance with the standard and the benefit it brings to users is at http://ift.tt/2vYl1UG.
