Fitbit has a lot to prove with Ionic, its new smartwatch
Fitbit is officially getting into the smartwatch business with the Fitbit Ionic. While the company has dabbled in fitness-focused watches before with the Fitbit Blaze, the Ionic is the company’s first (and long-awaited) true smartwatch, distinguished by its support of third-party apps.
But given how late to the game Fitbit is compared to its competitors, expectations are high.
My Note: I bought the Blaze a few months back and it looks so far like the look-and-feel is much the same. With few watch faces being added at the time and a lot of criticism around the very weak vibration compared to the Charge HR (and to which Fitbit never responded). At least with the Blaze you could personalise it with any standard straps. I've since moved on to an Android Wear watch (and back to wearing my Charge HR) so let's see what happens with the app support ecosystem here.
