What I wish I knew before joining Mastodon So Mastodon social network is growing quite strongly still. Although it is touted by some as a Twitter alternative, it has many quirks and features that are quite different from Twitter. I love that it has pure chronological sort order (unlike most social networks today) and better privacy protection. The article below gives some useful insight though that is worth knowing before people join Mastodon. It gives a good feel for what Mastodon is about and how it is different. The key thing to understand too with Mastodon is that there are different "instances" that you can choose to join (which becomes your local/home instance) and a federated view gives you a view across all instances to which you have linked. This is a key difference from centralised networks such as G+, Facebook, Twitter, etc. See http://ift.tt/2oYTONb #mastodon
