Introducing Kuri: Does Your Life Need a Home Robot?

Kuri the Robot - Part Entertainment, Part Utility This robot looks pretty good. Many previous robots have either been more of a toy than anything useful, and the more serious robots have been horrifically expensive research robots... Kuri maps out a house and knows the zones by name, being able to also avoid obstacles whilst moving around. It will also entertain kids, patrol your house while you are away, can wake you in time for work (learning the rhythm of your household), can recognise faces, and if hearing very loud sounds it will go and investigate automatically and send photos back to you. It is purposefully not too human-like but it does use gestures and sounds to communicate. Types of sensors that it has: * Capacitive touch to respond to human touch * Camera * Head and eye movements that look fluid and natural * Four microphones to direct the direction of sounds * Heart light to convey moods * Stereo speakers to read to you, play podcasts, music, speaking * Mapping sensors to navigate autonomously (even staying away from cliffs) * Drive system for carpets and flooring including thresholds Watch an intro video at http://ift.tt/2j4seeZ or visit Kuri's website at https://www.heykuri.com. At US$699 it is not cheap, but it is an "affordable" serious robot. Expected to ship nearer end of 2017.
