South African Steam: Trans Karoo Steam Finale March 1997

South African Steam: Trans Karoo Steam Finale March 1997 (Video) High speed scheduled mainline steam enjoyed an Indian summer in South Africa, with double-headed 25NC 4-8-4's hauling the Trans-Karoo from Johannesburg to Klerksdorp on a Friday afternoon, then hauling the opposing working back on the following day. This video features scenes from the very last steam-hauled Trans-Karoo on 21st & 22nd March 1997. Watch the video at https://youtu.be/C-n25XvS7gQ Not sure if many people know but South Africa does have a National Railway and Steam Museum in Johannesburg, that also operates the Magaliesburg Express as their source of income. The only problem is it is really difficult to find information about its location and opening times etc. See http://ift.tt/2kKbJRS. Whilst looking around for info I also came upon a fascinating publication called "My Love Affair With Railways (By Les Pivnic) - Special Feature Issue" at http://ift.tt/2luq8FO. It is well worth reading through and contains some interesting history of the drivers of South Africa's steam locomotives and many photographs. http://bit.ly/2lujkI2
