Planned UK Espionage Act could jail journos and whistleblowers as spies The fact is we have seen much illegal abuse of power by so called democratic nations, and it's often directed towards their own citizens. If a country's law says this can happen, then fine it is legal and one hopes that those are the laws that the citizens wanted. But if the law prohibits certain actions, and a country's law enforcement agencies are in fact flouting the law, then you do need whistleblowers or the media to alert citizens. "Security" is supposed to ultimately protect all citizens, not exploit them or censor their voices and opinions. Where law enforcement agencies are lying or concealing the truth from their own legislatures and parliaments, this surely can only be seen as circumventing the legal governance over them.
