Before Facebook there was MySpace... and it's still there Pre-Facebook (2005-2009) the place to be was on MySpace (Ok and also on Friendster and Google Orkut). Today's youth are probably oblivious to MySpace's existence but back then everyone (and most A-list celebrities too if you look at the linked article below where some have forgotten about their old pages) was on MySpace. I was incredibly active but when Facebook started out as a university social network and had just started going public, I was very quick to move across to Facebook and invite all my friends and family to Facebook. I was so into the new social network that I sadly deleted my old MySpace page. And yes today many of the youth have in turn moved on from Facebook to SnapChat, Instagram and other networks. But it is good to remember that as massively big as MySpace was in its day, a new thing came along that was better, and within a year MySpace was a ghost town. Well it has had some revival in the last year or so and it is now mainly home to musicians, bands, and so on. It is very much geared around music and even posting a normal post there is no pleasure recently. For me it just serves as a reminder on the Internet that you need to stay on top of your game and be sure you are listening and responding to your users (which is why Google has been successful with re-inventing itself, and why Microsoft is now scrabbling to find itself and become relevant again).
