Tesla and SolarCity switch an island to solar-only power SolarCity and Tesla announced they have rolled out a solar power and battery storage-enabled microgrid on the island of Ta’u in American Samoa. It has 1.4 megawatts of solar generation capacity and 6 megawatt hours of battery storage from 60 Tesla Powerpacks, and was implemented within one year. It may not solve entire countries' needs right now but here is one island that now has quiet clean power vs running diesel generators and possible diesel spills.
