Tender for FOSS readiness methodology and assessment for Limpopo Province in South Africa Limpopo Economic Development Agency (LEDA) have advertised a tender for a service provider to develop a free and open source readiness assessment methodology and to conduct a FOSS readiness assessment in Limpopo Province. FOSS supports ICT spending with local companies, keeping that money ‘onshore’, encourages a valued local skill base and supports innovation, local solutions and learning. A Free and Open Source Software baseline study conducted in Limpopo highlights the fact that the province is not fully ready to embrace Free and Open Source Technologies and to use it to its full potential. A formal methodology is required to assess departments in terms of readiness to migrate to Free and Open Source Software. The methodology should include methods to conduct assessments as well as methods to define implementation roadmaps based on the readiness of a department to implement Free and Open Source Software. Here is a Province in South Africa that is taking a serious step forward in terms of trying to keep its money onshore and invested in local companies, wants to promote open data standards, and see where they can seriously cut down on the cost of software that is paid for by taxpayers money. Let's hope we see more of this amongst other Provinces and National Departments in South Africa. Find the tender online at http://ift.tt/2gimVXx. It closes on 9 Dec 2016.
