Modification needed to use an Acurite 5-in-1 Professional Weather Center in Southern Hemisphere These weather stations are manufactured only to be used in the Northern Hemisphere despite them being for sale in many retail stores in the Southern Hemisphere. There is a brief note that if you are intending to use it in the Southern Hemisphere, you will want to rotate the device to face North so that its solar panel catches the sun. But is no mention of how to correspondingly correct the wind direction measurement, which is now 180 degrees out. Acurite's logic completely escapes me! Nor did Acurite chamfer that shaft to allow the wind vane to be rotated around. Basically what you have to do is to remove the wind vane and rotate it 180 degrees. To do this you need to do the following: 1. Pull the wind vane off - it will require quite a bit of pressure but it will slide off. 2. Note how the two flat sides align between the shaft and the hole, as you will need to ensure the wind vane will fit the opposite way. 3. Using something like a paper clip or or other narrow implement, gently round that flat side of the hole in the plastic wind vane itself. 4. Now align the wind vane (should be the narrow pointed side on the flat side of the shaft). 5. Press the wind vane back onto the shaft - this is easier said than done as it is a tight fit. I got mine on about half way and left it at that. Hope this will help others as I could find no description anywhere of how to do this. At least now from the photos, others can see what to expect. #acurite #acuriteweathercenter #southernhemisphere
