Simplenote - simplest way to keep cross-platform synchronised notes for free If you are finding the new restrictions on Evernote are not working for you, this service may be an option. You can save as many notes as you want, and there are no character length restrictions. There is basic formatting (standard Markdown) but there are no file attachments (you can insert links to images and web pages though). It has great search options and syncs across the web app, iOS, Android, Windows, Mac and Linux apps. Interestingly enough it also has version control to see older versions of a note, and there is sharing available too. You can also publish a note with a URL that it provides, or share it with multiple people to edit. Here is a link to a note I have published - see http://ift.tt/2aNH5lX. Notes can be exported into a zipped file. One thing I am not seeing though is any way of importing notes. It is open sourced and the code can be found at http://ift.tt/2aJQ5Ix.
