New number plates for South Africa renewable every 5 years Arrive Alive recently tweeted a reminder that South Africa is due to receive new number plates in the near future. Seems though from 100% of the comments at the article below that South Africans (myself included) are really not impressed or seeing the need for these plates. If they are really better for not being burnt out during vehicle fires why not just make us all wear metal dog tags with RFID chips in or something? Or replace petrol vehicles with electric vehicles to reduce the risk of fire... A new Provincial logo along with the Provincial code, a South African flag while we are driving inside South Africa....
